Home Learning Support – 7/1/21: P.E. at Home

PE with Joe Wicks - Little Devon

Now that we are all isolating again, we shall turn to the nation’s favourite P.E. teacher, Joe Wicks for some excellent exercises and wonderful warm-ups!

I’m sure you’re familiar with his Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/TheBodyCoachTV/videos

Today, I’ve chosen one you may remember from last year – Joe’s final ‘P.E. with Joe’ session:

Do take care: try to find the correct amount of space to perform this warm-up (it involves kicking and stretching, so you’ll need a bit of room… mind the furniture!!) and avoid any aspects that you feel uncomfortable with… there are hundreds of other warmups & exercises we could try on his channel, don’t forget!

Enjoy and stay healthy!!

Foundation – 15th June – P.E.

P.E. With Joe / The Body Coach

Good morning Year 5! It’s the start of a new week so let’s get moving. We’re going to kick off Foundation with some physical exercise to get us in shape for the week.

Have you been following P.E with Joe Wicks to keep in shape? Or perhaps you’ve been doing some other Physical Exercise to keep in shape? Whether you have or you haven’t this is a great chance to catch up.

Importance of ‘form’

Before watching and following the video, I want to talk about a specific thing called ‘form’. In P.E this basically means how you do an activity. I’m sure we have all seen someone do a ‘press up’ where they just dip their face to the floor. Or we have someone do a ‘star jump’ by sort of just flapping their arms a bit to their side.

Good form is when we do a specific exercise properly or the way it should be done. This isn’t about making something harder it is about making sure we actually exercise our muscles or body in the best way. For example, if someone does a press up by dipping their face, they aren’t actually exercising any chest muscles. Or if someone does a lazy star jump, they aren’t getting their heart pumping or improving their breathing as much.

So, when you follow P.E with Joe make extra effort to follow the exercises as perfectly as you can. If this means you can only do one or two of the exercises perfectly rather than 10 badly then this is much better! Over time you will be able to do more and you will be doing things properly.

P.E – 9th June – Mini-Sports Day Practise

This week in P.E, we have a a couple of activities for you to practise as a sort of mini-sports day practise.

Instructions for each activity are in the Youtube videos and take just a minute to learn. If you struggle with space or equipment, see how you could adapt the activities (No garden – could you go to a local park? No cones – use a water bottle!).

Remember, for each activity, time yourself and set little targets each day to try and beat your score and keep improving. Good luck!

P.E. – 18th-22nd May

If you are enjoying Joe Wicks, keep that up.

If you are looking for other videos too, these channels may help:

Or you could try this HIIT video:

Finally, Anthony has created a challenge this week – the plank challenge.

You should set yourself in a plank position and stay in that position for as long as possible. Get a sibling or parent/care to time you! How long can you plank for?

You can try this 3 times, but all 3 attempts must be within 20 minutes.

Why not keep a note of your time so you have a target to beat in the future.
